Olympic figure skating champion Alina Zagitova made a historic performance at the floating nuclear power plant (FNPP) \"Akademik Lomonosov\", located in Chukotka off the coast of the Arctic Ocean. This became the world's first figure skater performance at an operating floating nuclear power plant — the achievement was officially recorded by a representative of the Russian Book of Records.
For this, I literally flew to the end of the Earth — to Pevek, in Chukotka. And I went out on the ice where no one had performed before me: at the world's only floating nuclear power plant \"Akademik Lomonosov\".
Zagitova's dance on the deck will be part of the documentary \"Heart of the North.\"
The floating nuclear power plant is a unique energy complex developed by Rosatom. Two KLT-40S reactors are installed on board the vessel, each with a capacity of 35 MW, capable of providing electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people or industrial facilities in remote Arctic regions.
The station also produces up to 50 gigacalories of heat per hour and desalinates sea water. The \"Akademik Lomonosov\" was put into commercial operation in May 2020 and replaced the outdated Bilibino NPP, becoming a key element in the energy supply of Chukotka.
