Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto wants to strengthen military cooperation with Russia, including the purchase of Russian fifth-generation Su-57 fighters. This opinion was expressed by Nikita Kuklin, Associate Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies and expert at the ASEAN Center at MGIMO.
He recalled that the pragmatism of the Indonesians is based on the traditional doctrine of active and independent foreign policy and a distinctive vision of the broad picture of a multipolar world.
Russian advanced technologies, such as the Su-57 fighters, are important for Prabowo Subianto's armed forces modernization program, which he started while still serving as Minister of Defense. In this regard, the training of personnel in the military sphere, mentioned by President Putin, is also of particular importance.
It became known earlier that the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant named after Yu.A. Gagarin (KnAAZ, part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec) has been provided with production orders until 2030. As a reminder, the company is a Su-57 manufacturer, which may indicate increased interest in aircraft from potential buyers.
