Tank units of the Russian Armed Forces have begun to master the combat use of ground drones. Training in the use of robotic systems is mainly carried out at training grounds.
Tankers are mastering the control systems and their maintenance. Special tracks with natural and artificial obstacles have been organized at the training grounds.
In addition, training shootings are conducted. Depending on the configuration, the drones are equipped with AGS-17 Plamya automatic grenade launchers and 7.62-mm RPK light machine guns.
Military expert Yuri Lyamin noted that the future of tank forces is seen by many in the interaction of manned combat vehicles with various robotic platforms.
So far, ground drones are quite simple and light, but in any case, this is only the beginning of their development. It is already clear that they can provide various support to tanks, and, of course, the direction needs to be developed. The main and most obvious function that such robots could perform on the battlefield is fire support for tanks.
Grenade launchers and machine guns can effectively fight against unarmored vehicles and infantry, Lyamin concluded.
Let us remind you that the main tanks in the Russian army are modernized T-72B3M and T-90M "Proryv". Combat vehicles have already been tested by time, so the development of promising projects, such as the T-14 "Armata", was decided to be postponed.
