Scientists at the St. Petersburg State Technological Institute (SPbGTI) have created Russia's first engineering center for the production of products with nanometer coatings. The center plans to develop lightweight clothing with windproof and gas-tight properties, the institute said.
Previously, as part of import substitution, the institute fulfilled a state order to develop equipment for molecular layering on an industrial scale. This technology allows applying thin films to products with high accuracy and uniformity, providing a dense coating without pores and defects, capable of withstanding low temperatures.
The method can be used to modify clothing, microelectronics, solar panels, medical implants, optics, protective coatings, and ultra-thin catalysts. Shevchik noted that SPbGTI has already conducted research and development work worth more than 130 million rubles for state and industrial needs.
