Scientists from the Obninsk Scientific and Production Enterprise 'Technology' named after A.G. Romashin in the Kaluga region have created an innovative optical coating and technology for its application to the glazing of pilot cabins. It has no analogues in Russia.

The coating protects the crew from radiation both from onboard equipment and from outside radiation, for example, from the sun.

The nano-sized metal-optical composition consisting of thin dielectric and metal films provides unique optical and functional properties to aviation glazing.

It reduces electromagnetic radiation by 250 times and is 500 times thinner than human hair. The coating of one structure takes 3 grams of gold.

The coatings are handled in a special sterile room – a clean room. Powerful filters hold back incoming dust, and employees are dressed in special uniform.
