There are no MS-21 and Tu-214 aircraft, but the airport is already being reconstructed for them for 8.5 billion rubles

The authorities of KhMAO have come up with an initiative to completely modernize the air harbor in Khanty-Mansiysk for new aircraft

The government of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (KhMAO) has come up with an initiative to change the type of work on the modernization of the Khanty-Mansiysk airport from major repairs to a full-scale reconstruction worth 8.5 billion rubles. This was announced at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy by the Deputy Governor of the region, Azat Islaev.

He specified that the project needs to be implemented to ensure the landing of new Russian aircraft MS-21 and Tu-214. Islaev recalled that the existing runway (runway) does not meet the requirements for receiving new Russian aircraft MS-21 and Tu-214.

The existing runway does not have the bearing capacity and will not allow the take-off and landing of this type of aircraft.

Earlier, 3.2 billion rubles were already provided for the overhaul of the airport for 2026–2028, including 1 billion rubles of federal funds.

It should be noted that there is no information on the serial deliveries of Tu-214 and MS-21-310 yet. There are no even specific production plans for the aircraft of the Kazan Aviation Plant, and test flights of the new aircraft are being carried out in Irkutsk before certification.
