The 2S7 «Pion» self-propelled 203-mm artillery system is one of the most powerful field guns in the world. One of its shells, weighing 110 kg and with a range of up to 47.5 km, can erase an entire block, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
A design feature is separate-case loading. The propellant charge is fed in a case-bag separately.
The automated feeding system speeds up the rate of fire, despite the huge caliber, and the machine itself remains mobile thanks to the organized tactics of the crew, the department noted.
