A Mi-8 helicopter of "Polar Airlines" rescued the crews of two ships stranded in the ice of the Lena River. The ships "Zaliv" and "Bykov Mys" found themselves trapped in the ice due to a sharp cold snap that instantly froze the water. Ten crew members were cut off from the shore.
Upon receiving a signal from the Yakutia Rescue Service, the helicopter took off from Tiksi, heading north. The bad weather did not become an obstacle: the Mi-8, despite the frost, wind, and ice hummocks, confidently performed its task. Rescuers evacuated the sailors and safely returned them to Tiksi.
Mi-8 is a Soviet twin-engine multi-purpose helicopter developed by the Mikhail Leontievich Mil design bureau in the early 1960s.
