MTS has announced the piloting of an AI noise cancellation feature for voice calls in conditions of increased background noise. The technology can recognize and suppress a variety of sounds in the background of speech, including extraneous conversations, wind, signals from construction equipment, transport, and other noise. Previously, this option was only available in messengers, mobile applications, and the settings of some smartphone models.
MTS Web Services developers have created AI TelcoMixer technology, which allows launching various ML models for voice processing and returning clean sound without extraneous noise to the original channel between subscribers in real time. Unlike noise cancellation built into modern gadgets that requires manual activation, AI TelcoMixer processes sound in two voice streams simultaneously—incoming and outgoing—by default, even in speakerphone mode.
According to research results, almost half of our subscribers use gadget models without a built-in noise cancellation option. Today, the pace of life is so high that solving important tasks can catch a person anywhere—in transport, on a busy street, in a public place, and so on. Our task is to provide clear sound in voice calls regardless of the conditions, while providing noise cancellation by default, without having to manually launch any settings.
The pilot launch will take place among a limited number of subscribers in Moscow and the Moscow region on 4G/LTE networks.
We are the first in Russia to launch AI noise cancellation technology for voice calls over the LTE network. The AI TelcoMixer architecture allows for the phased connection of regions in the future, ensuring reliability and high performance, while not increasing the load on the network infrastructure.
By the end of the year, the company is preparing to launch several more technological solutions unique to the Russian telecom market.
