In September, AvtoVAZ held meetings at which it was decided to suspend the RGM project — an extended version of the popular Niva Travel model. The car was planned to be launched in 2027.
The financial costs of the project turned out to be too high. This forced the management to send it on an indefinite pause, probably a permanent one.
The RGM project involved a major modernization of the 30-year-old platform (redesign of the body, interior and exterior), as well as a transition to the electronic architecture from Lada Vesta. But calculations showed that the cost of improvements was approaching the creation of a completely new car.
The developed RGM developments can be used to update the current version of Niva Travel, especially in terms of improving the interior and ergonomics. If the project is ever resumed, mass production can be expected no earlier than 2029.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that AvtoVAZ released the first Lada Niva Travel with a new 90 hp gasoline engine.
