The Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant has launched the oil and debris skimmer \"MNMS Lebed,\" developed under the NE028 project.
To address the growing environmental risks in areas with high shipping activity, Nordic Engineering, commissioned by FSUE Rosmorport, created specialized vessels. The NE028 project vessels are designed to ensure environmental safety in coastal and port waters. They are capable of quickly responding to oil spills and effectively collecting floating debris, including plastic waste, which has become a problem even for remote seas.
The effectiveness of vessels of this class was demonstrated in December 2024 in the Kerch Strait. After the collision of two tankers, \"Volgoneft 212\" and \"Volgoneft 239,\" a large-scale fuel oil spill occurred. Environmental fleet vessels, including oil and debris skimmers, contained the pollution within 48 hours using boom barriers, collected 25 tons of oil-water mixture from the water surface, and cleaned 27.9 thousand m² of water area.
Main characteristics of the NE028 project oil and debris skimmer:
- Length - 15.5 m.
- Width - 6.0 m.
- Displacement - 95.7 t.
- Crew - 2 people.
- Main engines - 2 × 120 kW.
- Generator - 60 kW.
- Speed - from 7 knots.
