Fully unmanned tanks may appear in Russia in approximately 20 years. This was announced by the former head of the Main Armored Directorate (GABTU) of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Sergei Mayev.
The main direction of development of equipment and weapons of the Russian army, including armored vehicles, is robotization. The first steps in this direction are already being taken. The appearance of the first fully unmanned tanks as part of robotization can be expected no earlier than in 20 years.
The General cited the mass use of robotic platforms for various purposes, including unmanned ones, as an example. The development of unmanned tanks of the new generation will be carried out on the basis of either existing or new platforms, in particular, on the basis of the "Armata" tank.
