At the construction site of the third power unit of the Leningrad NPP-2, tests of the operability of the giant Zoomlion ZCC32000 crane and the traverse used for installing elements of the passive safety system have been successfully completed.
The Leningrad NPP, through its Communications Department, informs about its full readiness for work: both the lifting mechanism and special equipment are in working order. The general contractor for the construction of four new power units with VVER-1200 reactors, designed to replace existing capacities, is the TITAN-2 holding. Currently, two power units are already in operation, and the construction of two more is in progress.
During the test, the crane lifted a metal frame with a test load weighing 500 tons to a height of 100 millimeters and held it in that position for ten minutes, and then carefully lowered it back to the site.
With the help of the tested heavy crawler crane with a lifting capacity of 2000 tons and a special multi-vector traverse, specialists will soon install the first tier of the internal containment shell in the reactor building of power unit No. 3 in its regular place. During operation, the shell will perform the functions of one of the passive localization safety systems of the power unit. It is designed to prevent the release of radioactive substances and ionizing radiation beyond the most important object of the unit.
