During a working trip to the Irkutsk region, the Deputy Prime Minister familiarized himself with the construction progress of the research vessel "Vikenty Zaitsev," intended for studying the aquatic bioresources of Lake Baikal.
The TSC 550 project vessel is equipped with an echo sounder for hydroacoustic surveying, which is necessary for determining fish population size. It is also equipped with a trawl complex designed for catching specimens whose biological characteristics will help scientists understand the population structure. The research group will have the opportunity to conduct initial research in the onboard laboratories of the research vessel "Vikenty Zaitsev." The vessel's construction is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
Regular research work throughout the Lake Baikal water area is required to restore the commercial stock of Baikal omul.
The vessel was named in honor of Vikenty Petrovich Zaitsev, an outstanding leader of VNIRO (1956-1962). His work had a significant impact on the development of the fishing industry, the modernization of the technological base of fisheries science, as well as on the formation of food policy and the socio-economic development of the country.
Technical characteristics:
- two-deck vessel with a size of 36.3 meters by 7.3 meters and a displacement of 314.6 tons;
- equipped with an echo sounder for hydroacoustic surveying, a trawl complex for catching specimens for biological analysis, and a multifunctional laboratory;
- vessel autonomy — 10 days;
- can accommodate four crew members and seven members of the research group.
