The project to create a Belarusian national electric vehicle, the Belgee EX50, has been suspended due to its high cost, Gennady Svidersky, CEO of CJSC "BelGee," announced at a press conference on the 18th.
According to him, the cost of key components—electric motors, batteries, and inverters—turned out to be higher than global counterparts, making the launch of mass production economically unviable.
Initially, the company planned to complete the development of the model by the end of 2024 and release a pilot batch in December. In January 2025, it was reported that five assembled prototypes were undergoing testing, and by spring, the prospect of mass production in early 2026 was being discussed, provided the cost was reduced to $25,000–30,000.
For now, the mass production of the EX50 has been postponed indefinitely. Chinese Geely Xingyuan electric vehicles will be sold in Belarus under the Belgee brand.
