Итальянские F-35 «перехватили» российские Су-33 и Су-24

NATO aircraft took off from Ämari Air Base in Estonia

Lockheed Martin F-35A fighters of the Italian Air Force on August 13, for the first time in the current rotation, took off from Ämari Air Base in Estonia to intercept Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea, according to the NATO Air Command press service.

According to the agency, the Italian F-35s approached Russian Su-33 aircraft and a Su-24 front-line bomber. At the same time, some industry sources identified the Su-33 as a Su-27.

The NATO Baltic Air Policing mission has been conducted since 2004. However, often the alliance's fighters simply fly out to meet any Russian military aircraft that are traveling from or to the mainland without submitting a flight plan or having a transponder turned on.
