The "Vikhr" anti-tank guided air missile manufactured by "Kalashnikov" has proven itself well against large unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the concern's president, Alan Lushnikov.
We need to conduct flight tests. After that, we will be ready to start mass production. The missile is performing well against fairly large drones.
Sergey Urzhumtsev, Chief Designer at "Kalashnikov", added that the concern is also considering developing a new assault machine gun for rifle cartridges.
Currently, all main machine guns adopted into service in the Russian Armed Forces use a 7.62×54 millimeter rifle cartridge.
Earlier in July, the concern reported that, under a state contract, the Russian Ministry of Defense transferred a batch of "Vikhr-1" missiles to the military. The warhead of the supersonic missile can penetrate up to 750 mm of armor behind dynamic protection.
