The Vikhr anti-tank guided air missile manufactured by Kalashnikov has proven itself well against large unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the concern's president, Alan Lushnikov.
We have to conduct flight tests. After that, we will be ready to launch mass production. The missile is performing well against fairly large drones.
Kalashnikov's chief designer, Sergei Urzhumtsev, added that the concern is also considering developing a new assault machine gun for a rifle cartridge.
Currently, all main machine guns adopted into service in the Russian Armed Forces use a 7.62×54 millimeter rifle cartridge.
Earlier in July, the concern reported that as part of a state contract, the Russian Ministry of Defensetransferred a batch of Vikhr-1 missiles. The warhead of the supersonic missile can penetrate up to 750 mm of armor behind dynamic protection.
