The construction of a high-tech factory for the production of ballastless railway slabs for the Moscow – St. Petersburg high-speed railway (HSR) has started in Veliky Novgorod.
The Minister of Transport of Russia, Andrey Nikitin, emphasized that the HSR project will radically change the perception of the Russian transport system.
We are talking about a new speed, new connectivity and a new economy of the regions. Already at the first stage, a transport framework is being created that will not only unite the largest cities, but also form a basis for long-term growth and technological development.
The new factory will produce reinforced concrete slabs and a polymer elastic layer that will protect the structure from damage. Construction is carried out according to technological standards of the "3+" generation. This implies full digitalization of all production processes and a high level of automation.
The factory will be able to cover up to two-thirds of the annual demand for slabs for overpasses and the HSR roadbed. The enterprise will become a technological cluster, opening up new opportunities for related industries.
Innovative NGP 4.0 slabs for the HSR project will have a unique "elastic layer" made of polymer material, which reduces rigidity and protects the structure. The service life of the ballastless track reaches 50–60 years, and operating costs are 3-4 times lower than traditional solutions.
By the third quarter of 2026, the plant is planned to reach full capacity to provide the HSR with the necessary materials.
