Head of the Information Policy Committee advocates for mandatory labeling of texts, videos, and images generated by AI

The State Duma is considering an initiative to label content created using artificial intelligence. This proposal was made by the head of the Information Policy Committee, Sergei Boyarsky.

According to him, many media outlets are already using AI to automatically create and process materials. This can mislead people, as they do not always understand who the author is — a human or an algorithm.

In my opinion, at a minimum, a person has the right to know who wrote the text — a human or artificial intelligence. It seems to me that we should introduce some mandatory labeling of texts, articles, and images.
Sergei Boyarsky, Head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy

The issue is planned to be discussed at a committee meeting. If the initiative is adopted, publishers and platforms may be required to indicate the use of AI.
