The hypersonic anti-ship missile "Zircon" surpasses the American Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) in terms of its tactical and technical characteristics. The weapons were compared by journalists from Military Watch Magazine (MWM).
"Zircon" has confirmed its ability to accelerate to speeds of over 10 thousand km/h and hit targets at a distance of over 1000 km during testing.
These munitions are already arming the newest multipurpose submarines of Project 885M "Yasen-M", the modernized submarines of Project 949A "Antey", frigates of Project 22350, as well as the missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov", which is undergoing modernization.
MWM clarified that the range of the SM-6, which carries a warhead weighing 64 kilograms, is estimated at 450 km, and its flight speed is Mach 3.5.
Although the speed of the SM-6 at Mach 3.5 is high by the standards of Western anti-ship missiles, it remains much lower than that of Russian anti-ship missiles, such as the "Zircon".
