Launch of Skif and Marathon IoT satellites suspended to save federal budget

Roscosmos is ready to return to projects if the private sector is interested

Roscosmos has abandoned the implementation of the Marathon IoT Internet of Things satellite constellations and the Skif broadband access within the federal budget in order to save funds.

According to Dmitry Bakanov, General Director of Roscosmos, if private companies show interest in these projects, the state corporation is ready to return to their support.

At the same time, the Sfera multi-satellite constellation, which was to include Skif and Marathon, remains relevant and is considered as an integrated orbital system of Russia. It includes satellite communication systems in geostationary, highly elliptical and low orbits, radar and optoelectronic surveying, as well as the GLONASS navigation system.

Earlier it was planned to launch 264 Marathon IoT satellites and 12 Skif spacecraft into orbit, but these projects were not included in the current national space project in their original form.
