The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, confirmed that the first launch of the «Soyuz-5» rocket will take place before the end of 2025 as part of the joint Russian-Kazakh project «Baiterek». The new launch complex at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, which is being built by Kazakhstan, will be used to launch a promising medium-class launch vehicle.
Before the end of the year, we are implementing the «Baiterek» project at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, together with our Kazakh partners. The Kazakh side has committed to building the launch pad, and Roscosmos has committed to launching the new «Soyuz-5» rocket. And this launch is scheduled for December this year.
The «Soyuz-5» rocket was developed by RCC «Progress» and is intended for commercial and scientific missions. Its key feature is the reduced cost of launching cargo into orbit (up to 300 thousand rubles per 1 kg). The rocket is equipped with an RD0124MS engine, which is already undergoing final testing.
