Russian Deputy Prime Minister Novak Confirmed the Launch of the First VVER-1200 Reactor in the Near Future

The commissioning of the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey is expected within a year, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

Novak noted that the project is of flagship importance for Russia and remains a key area of cooperation with Turkey in the field of peaceful atom.

Earlier, the head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, stated that in 2025 the company plans to start generating electricity at the first power unit.

The Akkuyu NPP is being built with the participation of Russia and will become the first nuclear power plant in Turkey. It includes four power units with VVER-1200 generation reactors. The capacity of each will be 1200 megawatts.
