Android Users Fall Victim to Scammers

Russians lose 1.2 billion rubles weekly due to the installation of fake NFC payment applications. This statement was made by Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, at the SPIEF.

Kuznetsov added that he was referring to Android smartphone owners. iOS already has built-in protection.

The principle of this fraud is simple. Attackers force the victim to install an application. Then, by bringing the card to the phone, they can withdraw money.

Earlier, Sber identified more than 200 fraudulent groups. They rent citizens' accounts to make calls and send fake video messages. In the first quarter of this year, fraudsters made an average of about 6 million calls daily.
