A new method for installing stabilizers has been developed in the final assembly shop of the MC-21 at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant. This was reported by the press service of PJSC "Yakovlev" (part of UAC).
To install the stabilizer on the aircraft, a massive and bulky traverse is usually used. There is no space for storing such large equipment near the assembly station, so it was placed in another part of the shop. Each time, four riggers transported it to the station using an overhead crane.
Sergey Popov, the shop equipment foreman, came up with a special trolley for the traverse, which allows it to be stored directly under the assembly station. Employees of the mechanics group welded the structure from a profile pipe and attached swivel wheels to it.
After the implementation of this proposal, when it is required to install a stabilizer on the aircraft, two people roll the traverse out from under the station — it takes no more than a minute.
