President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin approved the Naval Doctrine for the period up to 2050, said the assistant chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev.
According to him, the decision to prepare the Strategy was made in July last year at a meeting in the Kremlin. On behalf of the President, the Ministry of Defense prepared its draft, which was then finalized by the Maritime Board, taking into account the proposals of federal agencies and organizations.
The final version of the Strategy was submitted to the Head of State for consideration, and he approved it on May 30.

Main points of the new Naval Doctrine:
- such a document was adopted for the first time in modern history;
- Russia's position as one of the world's greatest maritime powers is gradually being restored;
- the development of a powerful and modern fleet for our country is among the priority tasks;
- it is impossible to develop a powerful and modern fleet without a long-term vision of scenarios for the development of the situation in the ocean, the evolution of challenges and threats, and the definition of goals and objectives facing the Navy.
