Specialists from "Rosatom Infrastructure Solutions" have started assembling a steam turbine for a new turbo unit with a capacity of 13 MW at Smolensk CHPP-2. This work has become an important stage in the modernization of the station.
After the installation is completed, the installed electric capacity of CHPP-2 will increase to 316 MW, and the thermal capacity will reach 819 Gcal/h. The modernization will not only improve the efficiency of the station, but also extend its service life.
It should be reminded that Smolensk CHPP-2 is located in the village of Markatushino near Smolensk. This is the third largest power plant in the region. The station operates three turbo units and five steam boilers. The main fuel is natural gas. CHPP-2 provides about 85% of the thermal energy for Smolensk and supplies electricity to the Unified Energy System of the country.
