In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), a voice assistant in the Yakut language "Edjiiy" is being developed for integration with smart devices. The project is being implemented on the basis of the artificial intelligence laboratory with the participation of scientific and educational institutions of the region.
According to Evgeny Kolganov, head of the project management center of the REC "North", language databases are currently being formed, including literary works, educational materials and linguistic corpora. This is necessary for training the neural network model. The first version of the assistant (MVP) will be presented this year at the "Digital Diamond" forum, and a full release is scheduled for 2026.
The essence of the project is to create a virtual agent for virtual assistants in the Yakut language "Edjiiy" based on large language models, the task of which is to maintain a conversation for various smart devices. This year we will receive an MVP - a minimum viable product, we will demonstrate it at the "Digital Diamond" forum, in 2026 we will directly integrate with specific devices.
The development is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Yakutia and unites the efforts of the Arctic Research Center, the North-Eastern Federal University, the National Library of Yakutia and other institutions.
