The Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) has launched a laboratory for the biology of cultured cells. The project was implemented as part of the "Priority-2030" program and is aimed at in-depth study of the cellular mechanisms of disease development, as well as the creation of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment for cell cultivation, cytogenetic and molecular genetic research. According to the head of the laboratory, Olga Voronkova, the main focus of the work is the study of immunometabolism, that is, the relationship between metabolism and the immune system.
We are working on studying the problems of immunometabolism - this is the problem of dynamic relationships between the components of metabolism in the body and the state of factors of the immune system. <…> As a result of research, we identify factors that disrupt this interaction. Knowledge about such factors can be used to develop methods for diagnosing, preventing and personalizing the therapy of socially significant chronic human diseases.
The rector of SSMU, Evgeny Kulikov, emphasized that the laboratory will become a platform for interdisciplinary research and student training.
It is especially valuable that an environment has been created here where students can not only study theory, but also participate in real research, which is already receiving support from leading scientific foundations. Such projects blur the lines between education and science, forming a new generation of specialists ready to solve complex professional problems.
Currently, the laboratory is conducting several projects, including a study of the effect of metabolic syndrome on the lungs and the study of tick-borne infections. These works are supported by the Russian Science Foundation and the Tomsk Region Administration.
