Students at RTU MIREA have developed an innovative modular 3D printer. Their model is distinguished by the unique ability to easily replace and add parts. This makes the printer a flexible tool for solving a variety of tasks.

Our printer uses proven FDM technology, but takes it to a new level. The modular system allows you to easily add, remove, and replace components, adapting the device to different tasks without having to buy rigidly configured equipment - from prototyping to small-scale production.
Nikita Kochetov, a fourth-year undergraduate student at the Department of Digital and Additive Technologies at the Institute of Advanced Technologies and Industrial Programming at RTU MIREA

Unlike conventional 3D printers, which are monolithic devices with limited functionality, the RTU MIREA students' project is based on the idea of a modular additive platform.

Imagine the LEGO constructor that you knew as a child. You can assemble anything from its parts. Similarly, the functionality of a 3D printer is determined by a set of modules that can be changed. This allows users to adapt the printer to their needs.

You can use the printer for fast printing with decorative polymer or for multi-material printing with composites, or add new modules to expand the device's capabilities. This saves money by not buying several types of equipment.

This approach makes the printer not just a printing device, but a flexible and multifunctional tool that can be customized to specific tasks and requirements.

Currently, there are not many printers with a similar configuration on the market, and it is difficult to find equipment for FDM printing in Russia at all. Therefore, RTU MIREA decided to create a trend for affordable and flexible additive equipment.

Earlier, Russian scientists developed aunique 3D printer for the needs of the nuclear industry. It is used for printing ceramic and polymer products.
