The Head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Roman Starovoit, congratulated Russian divers and specialists of the Marine Rescue Service on their professional holiday, noting their contribution to the elimination of the consequences of the accident with tankers in the Kerch Strait. As part of these works, 624 tons of oiled soil were collected from the seabed.
The number of the consolidated group of divers was increased by more than 40 people and today amounts to 125 people. 6 vessels and 8 ejector units are involved in the lifting of fuel oil.
Preparations are underway for the first stage of installation of special engineering installations, cofferdams, above the sunken parts of the ships.
For underwater technical operations, specialists of the Marine Rescue Service used modern equipment, including updated SVU-5 diving helmets, which provide increased protection and comfort when working in polluted waters with a high content of petroleum products.
Diving operations were carried out from board specialized vessels, such as "Vodolaz Kuzminykh", which has the following technical characteristics: length - 28 meters, width - 5.6 meters, speed - up to 13.7 knots, equipped with two main engines with a capacity of 441 kW each.
To increase the efficiency of cleaning the bottom from oil products, innovative technologies were used, including a device for lifting oil and oil products (UPN), developed by scientists from Tomsk State University and JSC «Yuzhmorgeologiya». This equipment allows automating the process of collecting fuel oil, especially in conditions of increased water temperature, when the polluting substance becomes more mobile.
As part of environmental measures, a multi-channel well injector was tested, designed to supply oxygen to the soil and water, activating microorganisms that decompose petroleum products, contributing to the restoration of marine ecosystems.
Thanks to the coordinated work of divers and the use of modern technologies, the concentration of pollutants in the soil, bottom sediments and bottom waters of the Black Sea after the emergency with tankers decreased by an average of two times, which indicates the successful restoration of marine ecosystems.
