The exhibition "State Security and Special Communications during the Great Patriotic War" has opened in Moscow at the Museum of the Garage of Special Purpose at VDNH. Visitors will be able to see hundreds of unique exhibits, including original cars, air defense equipment, and NKVD military equipment.
Some items are being shown for the first time. Among them are drawings of the masking of the Moscow Kremlin, developed under the leadership of architect Boris Iofan. He managed to make the Ivan the Great Bell Tower practically invisible to enemy aircraft.
Sergey Devyatov, advisor to the director of the Federal Security Service, noted that the structure blended in with the surrounding space, which made it difficult to detect. During the war, the Kremlin was defended by two anti-aircraft batteries, including the 37-millimeter "61-K" gun on the ZIS-6 chassis.
The exhibition also includes a unique photograph of the aftermath of an enemy shell hitting the Kremlin Arsenal. The shot was taken by General Nikolai Vlasik, who was fond of photography, despite the ban on shooting in Red Square.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until May 18.
