The new nuclear icebreaker "Yakutia" of Project 22220 secured the first vessel escort. This was reported by the press service of Rosatom.

On Saturday, April 19, the third serial universal nuclear icebreaker completed the escort of the motor ship "Grigory Shelekhov". Since its commissioning, this was the first working voyage of the nuclear icebreaker.

"Yakutia" took the motor ship under escort at the edge of the ice of Cape Zhelaniya, and the operation ended in the area of the Sever Bay of the Yenisei Gulf. In total, the nuclear icebreaker traveled 367 nautical miles.

Icebreakers of the LK-60Ya type of Project 22220 are a series of Russian universal nuclear icebreakers for operation in the Arctic Ocean.

The index LK-60Ya stands for "icebreaker with a nuclear power plant with a capacity of 60 megawatts." They are designed to conduct expeditions in the Arctic and service the Northern Sea Route.
