The intrigue with the so-called «new European brand», promised to be presented on April 14, really turned out to be a clever marketing ploy. Behind the loud slogan «from the heart of Europe» were the Belgee cars already well known to Russians — the X50 crossovers (aka Geely Coolray) and X70 (aka Geely Atlas Pro).
The teaser site heartofeurope.ru, where interest in the «new product» was previously fueled, now features images and descriptions of these models. Prices start from 2 million rubles, which makes them direct competitors to other Chinese brands localized in Russia.
The Belgee brand (short for Belarus-Geely) can formally be called «European» — the cars are produced at a factory in Belarus, in Borisov. But in essence, this is a Belarusian assembly of Chinese Geely models adapted for the Russian market.
