The BMD-4M airborne combat vehicle is lighter than the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle, and therefore surpasses it in maneuverability. The advantages of the airborne vehicle over the BMP were named in the High-Precision Systems holding (part of Rostec).
Given the high maneuverability — the BMD-4M is lighter than the BMP-3 — they carry out sabotage and assault operations, where it is necessary to quickly deliver personnel and start working.
The holding noted that the BMD-4M is especially effective in areas with black soil, where wheeled vehicles will not be able to pass. A representative of the holding emphasized that the airborne vehicle overcomes such areas with ease.
The weight of the basic version of the BMD-4M is 14 tons. The tracked vehicle received a 500 hp engine, which provides a speed of up to 70 km/h on the highway.
