Geophysics Virtually Without Risks to Life and Budget: VR Studio for Perm Engineering School of NSU Students Opens in Siberia

In the future, the VR studio may help in practicing UAV control

A VR studio for visualizing geological and geophysical research and UAV control training has opened at the Advanced Engineering School of Novosibirsk State University (Perm Engineering School of NSU) in Siberia. VR tools will allow students to explore geology and Earth physics virtually, avoiding dangerous conditions and organizational difficulties.

VR tools are used in various areas - this is an opportunity for our students to visit fields or build their own geophysical monitoring system, or perform actions that require being in a dangerous area virtually, without going to the site, without going through safety briefings, solving a huge number of organizational problems.
Sergey Golovin, Head of Perm Engineering School of NSU

Golovin added that in the future, the VR studio will have the opportunity to control unmanned aerial vehicles in training mode.

The university also opened the "Space Instrument Engineering" and "Chemical Synthesis" laboratories for the development of small spacecraft and research in the field of oligonucleotide synthesis for genetic engineering. These spaces are open to students and university staff.
