At the National Center for Physics and Mathematics (NCFM), a prototype of a hybrid electronic-photon computing system capable of operating at the "speed of light" has been developed. This was announced by the scientific director of the NCFM, Alexander Sergeev.
Our task now is to put the device in a real-life situation so that it works, and it will work where optical information needs to be processed.
According to Sergeev, they plan to create a user-friendly interface for the new system to interact with classic electronic computers.
To create a system with a heterogeneous architecture, where there is information processing in universal computer processors, in a photon device, and others.
Unlike modern electronic computing machines with universal processors and graphics accelerators, specialized photon computing systems can significantly speed up problem-solving — by 100-1000 times.
Work on the device is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
