Russia has developed a fundamentally new device for protecting signals from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) called "Mirage." The analog video channel used by drones is vulnerable: it can be connected to from the outside, which threatens the operator's safety. Therefore, the military received a new system for encrypting analog video channels.
The system consists of an encoding (transmitter) and decoding (receiver) module. They are powered by a voltage of 5-15 V and are installed in the video channel break. The signal itself is encrypted using a unique key - without it, the enemy will only see "noise," explained Sergei Kurapov, a researcher at the K.G. Razumovsky Moscow State University of Technology and Management.
According to him, there are more than 60 thousand encoding key options. "Mirage" was developed by the Russian company "Sector." There is an analogue of the device on the Chinese market, but it is inferior to the domestic development in terms of both characteristics and functionality.
Chinese maskers work stably only at short distances with a stable signal, have a small number of encryption keys, have more compatibility problems, and, most importantly, Chinese manufacturers can transfer technical documentation and keys to third parties, which casts doubt on the security of their devices.
