To celebrate the anniversary of the VAZ-2121 SUV, first released on April 5, 1977, the company launched sales of the modernized Lada Niva Sport. The model received about 140 design changes, including a reinforced transmission, a modified engine, and an updated design. The first units will arrive at dealerships in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and 16 other regions of Russia.
The heart of the SUV is a 1.6-liter 16-valve engine from the Lada Granta Sport with a capacity of 122 hp. Upgraded camshafts, lightweight intake and exhaust systems, and a new ECU firmware reduced acceleration to 100 km/h to 11.8 seconds. The maximum speed reached 162 km/h, and the ground clearance was increased to 220 mm.
The transmission retains all-wheel drive with a downshift, but the rear suspension has been reinforced: a stabilizer bar has been added, and the Panhard rod has been removed. The brake system received ventilated discs at the front and disc mechanisms at the rear. Shock absorbers with "racing" settings improved handling on off-road.
The exterior is distinguished by 17-inch alloy wheels and additional high beam headlights. The interior is made in black and red colors with LADA Sport logos on the seats. The leather-trimmed steering wheel is tilt-adjustable, and standard equipment includes air conditioning, heated seats, electric mirrors, and luggage rails.
The recommended price for the Lada Niva Sport starts from 1,699,000 rubles. At the first stage, the SUV is available in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, and other regions. Deliveries to other dealerships will begin later.
The Niva Sport update strengthens AvtoVAZ's position in the affordable SUV segment, preserving the legacy of the legendary model.
