Rosstandart plans to relaunch the national vehicle testing program and the RuNCAP vehicle safety rating.
Now this idea has not been forgotten, we consider it necessary, taking into account the emergence of a very large number of fundamentally new players in the market, to recreate the national system for rating the safety of passenger cars. Moreover, all the methodological documents for this are available.
According to Shalaev, there are no legal obstacles to restarting crash tests. It will only require initiative from both domestic and foreign automakers whose cars are most relevant on Russian roads.
Shalaev also said that back in 2019, work began in Russia to create the first procedures and methods for conducting RuNCAP. However, then followed a series of unfortunate events for the automotive industry. In 2020-2021, there were problems with the supply of cars due to the pandemic, and since 2022 the market has begun to change dramatically.
