The Beloyarsk Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) has received permission from Rostekhnadzor to extend the operation of power unit No. 3 until 2040. The station was inspected by leading design and scientific organizations, including OKBM named after I.I. Afrikantov and the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
During the inspection, the vessel and elements of the BN-600 reactor were examined. Modernization works aimed at improving safety were also carried out at the station. Specialists replaced the steam generator modules and the primary circuit circulation pumps of the reactor.
The Director of BNPP, Ivan Sidorov, emphasized the importance of power unit No. 3 for the future of nuclear energy. He noted that the BN-600 is celebrating its 45th anniversary since its inclusion in the country's power system. During this time, 177 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity have been generated.
Extending the service life of the power unit will allow an additional generation of about 60 billion kilowatt-hours, which will significantly strengthen the reliability of the Russian power system.
