On the morning of March 29, 2025, an Aurus Senat car, the flagship model of the Russian automotive industry worth about 30 million rubles, caught fire on Sretensky Boulevard.
According to preliminary data, the source of the fire was the engine compartment, after which the flames spread to the interior, which was finished with leather and wood. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations promptly arrived at the scene and localized the fire within 15 minutes. There were no casualties or injuries.
The fire occurred on an area of 6 square meters. Thus, almost the entire car burned out.
The Aurus Senat is equipped with a hybrid power plant that combines an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The manufacturer positions the model as a competitor to premium European brands, emphasizing the use of domestic technologies. The cost of the burned Aurus model ranges from 23 to 29 million rubles.
The incident drew attention to safety issues: the open flame quickly damaged the electronics and interior, which indicates the need for additional fire resistance tests of materials. The investigation into the causes of the fire should help determine whether the problem is related to the design features of the model or is the result of external factors.
