Specialists from OKB "Electroautomatics" (part of KRET), together with the Federal Center for Brain and Neurotechnologies of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency of Russia, have developed the HIFU therapy device (focused ultrasound technology) "MedUza 008". Currently, the equipment is undergoing toxicological and technical tests, according to the Rostec press service.
"MedUza 008" is designed for the diagnosis and treatment of neoplasms using high-intensity focused ultrasound. The device removes tumors in the mammary and thyroid glands without damaging surrounding tissues.
Under the influence of focused ultrasound, the temperature at a given point rises to 60-90° , which leads to the death of pathological cells. The thermal effect is combined with the effect of acoustic cavitation, when gas bubbles are formed and collapse in the liquid under the influence of ultrasonic waves. This creates microscopic zones of high energy that help destroy cells and tissues in the desired area.
Advantages of using the "MedUza 008" device:
- HIFU therapy sessions can be performed repeatedly
- The result of the operation can be monitored in real time
- This is a more gentle therapy for patients, hospitalization is not required
- Exposure to ultrasound does not cause pain, does not leave scars
Rostec emphasized that HIFU therapy is used in medical institutions around the world. Russian doctors perform several thousand ultrasound operations a year, but using foreign equipment. With the advent of the domestic HIFU therapy device, the procedure will be more accessible.
