Complete Import Substitution: Russian Spacesuit Onboard Computers Equipped with Domestically Produced Displays

The spacesuit is equipped with a new information display system

The onboard computers of the Orlan-MKS spacesuits No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8, manufactured by NPP Zvezda, have been equipped with displays produced in Russia. This was announced by the company's General Director, Sergey Pozdnyakov.

In 2022, Pozdnyakov said that the company had started producing three new Orlan-MKS spacesuits, which should replace those currently used on the station. The first of these, Orlan-MKS No. 6, was delivered to the ISS on March 2. Two more are planned to be sent to the station in the second half of this year.

For some things, we have switched to domestic components - in particular, we are now using a domestic display for our computer. In the previous version of the spacesuits, it was foreign.

Unlike the previous model of the Orlan-MK spacesuit, the Orlan-MKS has a new internal airtight shell made of modern material with a longer service life. The spacesuit also has a new water cooling system with automatic temperature control, which provides the operator with the most comfortable conditions.

In addition, the spacesuit features a new information display system.

Earlier it became known that Russian scientists are ready to develop a spacesuit for a flight to Mars, if there is a corresponding order, including from the Americans.
