Culture Only by Passport: New Rules for Ticket Sales in Moscow Theaters Aimed at Speculators

The system of personalized tickets will be introduced on March 15 in 99 theaters in the capital

In 99 theaters and concert halls in Moscow, ticket sales by passport will start on March 15. This initiative of the Moscow Department of Culture is aimed at combating ticket resale.

Now, to purchase, it is enough to register on the theater's website and enter your passport data. You will need to present your document at the entrance.

Each buyer can now purchase no more than four tickets. The problem with gift tickets has been solved with a voucher system, allowing the recipient to enter their passport data on the website. Thanks to this, such tickets cannot be resold. They can be reissued to another person, but the procedure will take about 10 days.

However, some industry experts express concerns about the new rules. For example, the author of the theatrical blog, Vyacheslav Gerasimchuk, believes that the innovation may negatively affect theater fans: if a person, for some reason, cannot attend the event, their ticket will be lost due to the impossibility of transferring it to another person.
