"Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg" has received a patent for a new chemical catalyst for methanol synthesis. It is based on a graphene-like carbon support. The patent was registered in the register of inventions of Rospatent on January 23, 2025.
The developed copper-containing catalyst uses mesoporous carbon. According to the inventors, the new material is twice as efficient as traditional industrial catalysts.
The production cost of mesoporous carbon is significantly lower than that of domestic graphene oxide, and tens of times lower than that of imported graphene analogues.
Work on the catalyst was carried out as part of the development of a technology for the utilization of flue gases generated during the operation of gas pumping units. Tests of a pilot plant for the implementation of this technology were successfully completed at the end of 2022 at the Shatrovskaya compressor station, which is part of the Shadrinsk linear production department of main gas pipelines (branch of "Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg").
