At P. G. Demidov Yaroslavl State University, the development of mini-analogs of electromechanical microwave switches for small-sized radar systems and communication systems for UAVs has begun.
Associate Professor of the Department of Nanotechnology in Electronics of YarSU at the Branch of the Institute of Physics and Technology named after K. A. Valiev of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ilya Uvarov, clarified that to reduce the size of the relays, scientists are using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology. The principle of operation of the component is the electrostatic attraction of a movable electrode to a fixed one.
The developed switches can be compared with traditional large components in terms of radio frequency characteristics, while they benefit from lower power consumption and smaller size, as well as speed of operation.
Thanks to the new technology, it will be possible to create a new electronic component base for microwave technology in Russia.
