Кровавая Луна: полное затмение придаст естественному спутнику Земли красный оттенок 14 марта

Residents of Russia will be able to see a rare astronomical phenomenon without special equipment, but not everyone

On the night of March 13-14, 2025, residents of Russia will be able to observe a rare astronomical phenomenon – the Blood Moon. This will occur during a total lunar eclipse, when the Moon takes on a reddish hue due to the refraction of sunlight in the Earth's atmosphere.

According to scientists from Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU), the phenomenon will be visible in most of Russia. No special equipment is required to observe it. It is best to choose a place with minimal light pollution for a clearer view.

Professor of the Department of Astronomy and Space Geodesy of the Institute of Physics of Kazan Federal University, Yuri Nefediev, in turn, said that this phenomenon is the result of a lunar eclipse, when the Moon enters the shadow of the Earth, but its surface is still illuminated by sunlight, which is refracted in the Earth's atmosphere, giving the satellite a burgundy hue.

According to Nefediev, the Moon does not become bright red, but acquires a burgundy hue, since the light that reaches the Moon has passed through the Earth's atmosphere, shifting the spectrum to the red region.

Not everyone will be able to witness this astronomical event. For residents of Kazan and Tatarstan, observing the "blood moon" will be impossible, since the eclipse will occur at night, when it will be daytime in Tatarstan. To see this phenomenon, you will need to go to the Far East or Chukotka.

Nefediev explained that lunar and solar eclipses repeat approximately every 18 years in the same time period, which is called the "saros" period. According to the scientist, such events do not affect the well-being of people, including those who are weather-dependent.
