The Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (JSC "TsNIITOCHMASH", Kalashnikov Concern) shipped the first batch of 5.6 mm (.22LR) "Olimp-BI" cartridges to the customer in 2025.
Rifle cartridges of ring ignition "Olimp-BI" are designed for shooting from short-barreled rifles (such as BI-6, BI-7). A feature of the cartridges is a brass sleeve, which guarantees a tight fit to the surface of the cartridge chamber and is characterized by increased durability and strength.
The use of an innovative capsule composition and pyroxyline powder protects the barrel from wear and contamination, and also maintains the efficiency and energy intensity of the shot at negative temperatures.
TsNIITOCHMASH is the only developer and manufacturer of "Olimp" cartridges. To date, the "Olimp" series includes nine denominations of cartridges. The Institute is working to improve their design, composition and ballistic characteristics. These sports cartridges are recognized as one of the best in the world.
