Pskov Region and Krasnodar Territory Lead in Low Toll Rates

Experts from the strategic group "Hyperion" have presented a rating of the price accessibility of toll roads in Russia. The cost of travel on them varies from 2.41 to 226.7 rubles per kilometer, depending on the category of vehicle.

The most advantageous routes for passenger cars are the Ostrov – Vyshgorodok section in the Pskov Region, as well as the Pavlovskaya village – Krasnodar section in the Krasnodar Territory. The highest tariffs are observed on the bridge crossing over the Kama River in Udmurtia for trucks and tourist buses.

Toll road tariffs are set by operators, but maximum prices and calculation methods are approved by the government. The cost of travel depends on the category of vehicle, time of day, and other factors.

For example, the average price for passenger cars is 11.2 rubles per km, while for trucks it is 32.09 rubles. The maximum fee per 1 kilometer of the way is set for vehicles of categories I and II — 120 rubles, for category III — 173.3 rubles, and for IV — 226.7 rubles.

It is worth recalling that the first toll section on Russian roads appeared in 1999 on the M-4 "Don" highway. Currently, there are 56 toll sections on 25 highways operating in Russia.

In 2025, it is planned to put 169 km of new toll roads into operation. The total length of toll sections is only 3872.1 km, which is only 0.3% of all roads with hard surfaces.
